Dr. Eleni Skourtou teaches Multilingualism and Multiculturalism in Education at the Department of Primary Education / University of the Aegean. She is the director of the Language, Literature & Folks Culture Lab at the same department.
She has studied Sciences of Education (Erziehungswissenschaften) in Frankfurt / Germany (Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe-Universität) and she holds a PhD from the same university in bilingual education.
Her main research interests are language education, second language learning, bilingualism and education of minority children; literacy / orality / multiliteracies, text & meaning making. Her actual research and commitment are in the field of Roma children education and of refugees (children and adults) education.
Recently (2018), Eleni Skourtou spent a semester as Visiting Research Scholar at the City University New York (CUNY) / Graduate Center. During the same time, she was invited to talk at the Harvard University, the University of Yale (USA) and at the University of Toronto (Canada).
